A Thing to Ponder

Things to Ponder

I wanted to see if  the process of painting is  different if you know the subject or not. It is not a surprise to find out the answer is yes.
I want to explore that further . For now I will ponder it and consider how to use the implications.
When I know more I will share those discoveries. For now I will generalize and say I have observed knowing the person makes the process more difficult for me.

  1. Your title says a lot! Painting, such an avenue for discovery...skills and emotions. This is beautiful Jo!

    1. Thank you Kaethe . This person and I have a strong relationship. Something to ponder...probably forever.

  2. I did individual portraits of my entire extended family....over 45 of us and discovered that not only does it make a difference knowing the person, but it also mattered what my relationship was to them and the closer I am the harder it is.

    1. That explains is then. It is good thing I am painting pictures of people I do not know most of the time. I don't have the same problem when I am painting pets. I love them all.
