Products For Beauty

Products For Beauty
Watercolor

matted 12x12 inches

These objects are all about surface beauty. I never was much of a "girly girl" and as I age I am less and less of one. Not sure why I got sidetracked into these paintings of make-up. I think it will be revealed if I keep painting and see where it leads. It always makes sense if I pay attention to what I am supposed to learn. It might be about painting and it might be about "life" . Right now it is OK not to know.

Hope in a Jar

My mother called beauty creams "hope in a jar". I am painting these items to examine the space between things. I "hope" I can paint them well.

I am interested in temperature more than color at the moment. The minute I can understand more about that I will break it down and see if I can communicate the concept better.

The City Crowd

The City Crowd
watercolor
8x9 inches
This is the Daily Paintworks challenge for the week. My response is brighter than this photograph shows. But I stand by the composition and the value shapes and overall design. I am a country mouse but shapes are shapes no matter where you live.

Vermont Icon

Vermont Icon
watercolor
7.9x7.9 inches
matted 12x12 inches

This is my first landscape since watching Susan Abbott demonstrate her skills first hand.
I tried to concentrate on color value shapes and temperature. This is "Very Vermont" . It is called the "Green Mountain State" for a reason.

Influences

Matted 11x14 inches

Influences http://www.jomackenzie.com/store/p880/Influences_.html
I went on a field trip to see @Susan Abbott demonstrate her painting process. This threw me into such excitement I could not sleep for a night. The next day I lay around like a "Walrus " unable to move . Today is the day I am ready to recharge my engine and start all over again. I know a learning curve is in the making. While it is happening I am sure things will look "strange " before they look better. That is the process of an artist. You have to find out where the new boundaries are before you can incorporate them into your knowledge base.

I am still exploring temperature along with value shapes and yellow is my hardest color to determine value of ...so I had to "step up".

What is the Temperature Today

What is the Temperature Today?
Watercolor
7.9x7.9
Matted
12x12 inches
I call this painting "What  is the Temperature Today" because I studied the surfaces and painted the temperature shapes not just the value shapes. It was like being an insect going over the surface and changing the color temperature as I went on my journey. This is from a photograph by the wonderful artists El's Manning and it can be found HERE

Wild Flowers

This week the challenge at the Daily Paintworks is to paint  a field of wild flowers. I have painted this field before but it has been years since the last attempt. This time I just found forms and things fell into place nicely.
I feel good about this challenge response it is 7x 10 inches of popping poppies.
