Influences and help

Peony
watercolor
7x11 inches
$140
I have become aware of "mega artist" Joseph Raffael  who paints in transparent watercolor on a grand scale. He paints peonies and I am excited to see how I can use his influence during Peony quest this year. It is still a little early but I need to practice my "petal? skills so that I will be ready when the peonies bloom in about three weeks.

That is when Peony Quest will be in full bloom and I will painting them everyday until somebody yells "uncle". Maybe by then I can paint some big ones if my arms heal in time. I doing my arm circles everyday and I can lift them over my head a little now.

  1. I'm a beginner artist. I decided my first painting would be a peony....10 peony's later, I am still trying to get even one half decent one.

    1. I am still trying to paint a peony too. It is an endless Quest. The white peony is my personal Moby Dick

  2. Joseph Raffael is one of my favorite artists, Jo! I have his book and saw his work in NY. Woman behind the desk in the gallery said watercolor artists would come in and cry in front of his paintings. I love watching the videos of him painting... color simply spills off his brush. Your work is beautiful also, Jo! Will be looking for those peony petals.
